We do not only play "classic" big band music like then inevitable Glenn Miller, Count Basie, or others, but also play quite a lot of compositions of Belgian origin. A nice example is Bert Paige, alias Albert Lepage, composer/musician with Gent roots, member of the legendary "Ramblers", who has proven to be able to write swinging music, very well comparable to that of the "big" guys. Next to pure bigband music we also play latin-like music, funk, and so on.
Since the end of 2000 Chantal Himbrecht, a professional female jazz singer, has joint the group. That is the reason why we have started taking some standard jazz songs on our playlist (see the end of the list).
Some songs are recorded on one of the two demo and promotion CD's of The Mellvids. Some fragments of these recordings can be downloaded as mp3 files from the demo CD page.
